The E05 Flashlight by Fenix ///

Flashlights are like headphones in that they’re both relatively simple pieces of tech with an immense amount of varying manufacturers making them with almost as much a spread in quality and craftsmanship.

This is particularly true with AAA and button battery powered flashlights, because they’re easier to make and cheap with inferior mass production, ergo crap.

There’s a reason why seemingly similar models like the Fenix E05 Flashlight can be bought for $5 or even $1, because their manufacturing costs are in the pennies.

And there’s a reason why why its manufacturing is so cheap, because it is cheap, sure in retail price but more importantly in quality, craftsmanship and parts.

Like I said, flashlights are a relatively simple technology and so bargain models will usually do the trick – there’s less things that can go wrong or break. But therein lays the problem, if you’re in a position where you need a flashlight, it needs to work and work well.

Which brings us to a different problem, when it comes to illumination, brighter is better but often means bigger. Even carrying a small but powerful 188 lumen SOG flashlight (below) for “normal” everyday carry can be cumbersome. Well the E05 is the solution.

Fenix E05 w/ SOG Dark Energy Flashlight Comparison ///

The FENIX E05 Flashlight($) is the one you can carry when you don’t want to carry a full size one but always have the illuminating power of one – EDC minimalism.

At 85 max lumens brightness, it’s one of the most powerful single AAA battery powered flashlights available and at 2.6″ it makes it the smallest.

The flood beam is practical for broad perspective viewing unlike a tactical flashlight’s focused beam, but the E05 is built like one. For such a small thing it’s battle tough and aggressively knurled for maximum grip.

A single twist activates the low settings with a runtime of up to 15 hours, another switches to medium power then another to high. Easy single hand operation.

Each unit comes with an AAA battery, optional keyring and a spare o-ring with bulb lifespan of 50000 hours.

Smaller doesn’t mean weaker with this durable, long-reaching flashlight. E05 takes compact on the road with reliable Fenix performance under extreme conditions.

I always have 2 illumination devices as part of my vagabonding packing list, the SOG Dark Energy as standby in my FAST Pack and this on my person.

The Fenix E05 may be literal size of your pinky finger but it packs the figurative power of your fists.
