SATW is a series of posts showcasing souvenirs from around the world that I’ve acquired during my vagabonding travels.
*LINE’S ‘BROWN’ TEDDY BEAR
LINE is the primary mobile messaging app for much of Asia, including Taiwan. A lot of their success has got to be the cute and clever mascots that are heavily marketed. I must admit that it worked on me.
In my 5 months of travel and living all around Taiwan, LINE branded (authentic or not) merchandise was everywhere. So I caved and figured I would buy myself a souvenir. After exhausting searches in Taipei and Juifen, I found “the one” at a counterfeit stall at the night market in Kenting, the opposite end of Taiwan.
I knew right away that this “Brown” (the main character) teddy bear was not an officially licensed LINE product but I just had to have it, especially for just $1.50.
My tiny palm sized teddy bear not only gives me a powerful sense of nostalgia from my days as a boy but it will also forever remind me of my time in Taiwan.
That makes this an exceptional travel souvenir.
